Discover the Set of Intervention Methods to Involve Young NEET Mothers
Before starting our work with the Young Mothers we analysed the way service professionals usually approach them. The Young Mothers often find their living situation challenging and may experience numerous complex situations which require social workers, counsellors, teachers, youth trainers with a diverse range of professional, emotional, and cognitive skills, especially when their mission is to support bringing them back to education.
It is not always easy for Young Mothers to state their needs or to put into words their real thoughts and feelings particularly when they already experience feelings of confusion and fear, around judgement which often leaves them with elements of distrust anger and even despair. The BYMBE approach that we adopt, builds on the Young Mothers strengths and abilities, specifically seeing them as resourceful and resilient allowing them to lead the support process.
Communication is key: this process is important for professionals to be able to establish a trusted relationship and a safe environment, supporting Young Mothers to articulate what they care about and empower them.
Therefore, we decided to provide a reference text identifying methods, practice approaches and activities which allow practitioners to motivate Young Mothers in re-entering education and thus becoming effective in their work. The tools and techniques have been developed and adapted specifically with the target group in mind and have been piloted with a number of Young Mothers in all partner countries.
BYMBE Set of Intervention Methods to Involve Young NEET Mothers is now available on the BYMBE website.
Local train-the-trainers events in partner countries
All project BYMBE partners have held training events in their countries to support professionals in improving their skills when dealing with Young Mothers. We see working with professionals not only as a way to indirectly help Young Mothers but also to improve their opportunities and conditions. Furthermore we view it as a way to support organisations through innovative methods that improve the way they work. It also is a tool which enables us to monitor attitudes of individuals or teams which may hinder progress and in some cases lead to unconscious stigmatisation of their clients.
The aim of these events was to share the up-to-date information partners obtained from the research for the Report on National Education and Support Services for Young Mothers and to provide practical knowledge and advice about the approach we have adopted; in addition to, the intervention methods we recommend using with them.
BYMBE Support Pack is now available for download
With BYMBE Support Pack we have completed the holistic support tools for the three stages of the path which we recommend Young Mothers should take on their journey back to education (Orientation, Empowerment and Support).
Professionals working in social accompaniment of Young Mothers often have to support them in facing complex, unpredictable and troubling situations. Therefore, we aimed to support practitioners with a ‘toolbox’ that can be used to enable Young Mothers to develop patterns of thinking and acting to better support themselves and their families to move forward.
This intellectual output focuses on what professionals can do to support Young Mother in taking care of their physical and psychological wellbeing, facing emergencies and crisis (problems in parent-child relationship, act like a role-model, dealing with stress, anxiety, family crisis or gender violence) and job hunting.

Help us raising awareness about difficulties Young Mothers have in going back to education.
Few people are aware of the lack of adequate education supports for Young Mothers. They face obstacles during their pregnancy and after the birth of their child that impedes their educational aspirations and attainments. Word of mouth is a powerful tool – you can help by sharing our message!
Download our images and post them to your profiles. If you have something to say about how to provide a better support to Young Mothers, put a message alongside. We've set up a Facebook page and Instagram account (@bymbe.eu) to help people share their thoughts and supporting ideas.
